About Us

The Box Hill and District Scottish Society has been Scottish country dancing in Melbourne for over 50 years. It is a member of the Melbourne and District Branch of The Royal Scottish Country Dance Society (RSCDS) which has its home base in Scotland.

We dance every Tuesday evening from March to November inclusive at Church of Christ, Highfield Road, Hartwell, 3124 (Cnr of Highfield Road and Milverton Street, just up from Toorak Road).

At 7.30 pm, we begin with a beginner's session. This consists of teaching the various steps and dances that involve the basic formations included in many Scottish Country Dances. As the evening progresses, the dances become more complex. For some of these dances, beginners can join in with a more experienced partner. Others are for experienced dancers only and beginners are encouraged to watch. A cup of tea or coffee is served at some stage during, or at the end of, the evening. Dancing concludes about 10pm.

The cost is $7. ($5 for members)

The fourth Tuesday of each month is a mini-social night and weekend socials are held at different times throughout the year. See our Social Events page for more details of these.
